To reduce the number of young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) is a major priority for the APG.  Tendring’s NEET figure is 13% and this is the highest percentage of all areas in Essex.  There are currently two initiatives in place

• Strategies to reduce the number of students who fall into the NEET category when they leave school at 16.  Learning mentors have proved to be effective in recent pilots and the number of these mentors will be increased.
• A significant number of young people fall into the NEET category when they leave school either during or at the end of Year 12.  A data collection activity will be undertaken to identify these young people and the educational experience they underwent in Year 12.  This data should inform future strategies to reduce this number.
